The Las Vegas Raiders (2-7) are in the midst of their bye week on the heels of a 41-24 loss at the Cincinnati Bengals.
The Raiders’ loss to the Bengals has Las Vegas mired in a five-game losing streak. With the season slipping away and offensive shortcomings as one of the key culprits, Las Vegas overhauled its offensive staff.
The Raiders fired offensive coordinator Luke Getsy, quarterbacks coach Rich Scangarello and offensive line coach James Cregg. That trio were all in their first seasons with Las Vegas and were handed their pink slips just nine games into the season.
Las Vegas retooled by bringing back a familiar face and restructuring roles for a pair of existing staff members.
The Raiders added former head coach Norv Turner (2004-05) to the staff as a senior advisor, while elevating Norv’s son, Scott Turner, from passing game coordinator to interim offensive coordinator. Joe Philbin moved into the role of interim offensive line coach after previously serving as the Raiders’ senior offensive assistant.
At this point, though, all of these moves feel like temporary Band-Aids until the real show begins in the offseason.
Where will Las Vegas be picking and who will they select in the 2025 NFL draft? That’s the question a lot of Raider fans want answered.
With the 2024 NFL season at its midseason marker, ESPN broke down each franchise’s biggest offseason need. The pick for the Raiders’ biggest 2025 offseason need is not a shocking one.
Quarterback. Theoretically, sure, the Raiders could go into 2025 with Gardner Minshew (38.5 QBR) and Aidan O’Connell (48.0 QBR) competing for the job again. But should they? Not if they want to be a contender. – Aaron Schatz, ESPN.
It’s a foregone conclusion that the Raiders will be in the quarterback market during the 2025 offseason and the most likely avenue will be the 2025 NFL draft.
Which draft prospect does ESPN fits best?
Shedeur Sanders, QB, Colorado. Sanders’ accuracy, toughness in the pocket and quick-strike ability as a thrower would put him in position to immediately be the Raiders’ starter. He’s the top QB on my board. – Matt Miller, ESPN.
Sanders has been tremendous at Colorado and will be in the mix as the No. 1 overall draft selection. The 6-foot-2, 215 pound quarterback is completing 72.9% of his passes, has thrown for 2,882 yards and 24 touchdowns and has the Buffs in the hunt for a Big 12 Championship.
The son of Prime Time, could Sanders be the franchise quarterback that helps the Raiders chart a return to glory?
