CJ Stroud Peach Bowl performance has Raider Nation Draft dreaming

The College Football playoff With Derek Carr’s time as the Raiders’ quarterback seemingly at an end, the focus for many Raiders fans has shifted to his replacement. And with the Raiders currently slated for a pick near the top of the draft, the college football prospects are of considerable interest. Most projections have Alabama’s Bryce Young as the first quarterback taken overall, the consensus next QB on the board is Ohio State’s CJ Stroud. Stroud took the field today and cemented himself as a top pick in this draft. He went 23 of 34 for 348 yards and four touchdowns. He also ran the ball 12 times for 34 yards. His longest run of the day came on the final drive. With the Buckeyes trailing 42-41 with :54 second left, Stroud took off for 27 yards to put them in scoring position at the Georgia 31. Unfortunately, they would get no closer and the 50-yard field goal was hooked wide left. Despite losing the game, Stroud proved a few of his doubters wrong with his ability to create plays and make accurate throws under pressure and on the move. His performance had Raiders fans across social media dreaming about what could be should he fall to them or should they be able to swing a trade to move up and get him. Derek Carr has the second-most consecutive starts at QB

It feels like the Derek Carr era has officially come to an end in Las Vegas. Going into Week 17, the Raiders have sent Carr home and will start Jarrett Stidham against the 49ers. That move is mostly financial as the Raiders would be on the hook for Carr’s 2023 and 2024 salary if he’s unable to pass a physical and the end of the year. With so much uncertainty surrounding the franchise, this move gives them some flexibility this off-season. However, it’s a bummer for Carr, who currently has the second-longest active streak of starts at QB (91). And before you even ask, Tom Brady has the most at 108. That stat was provided by ESPN Stats and Info in a recent article previewing all of the Week 17 games. The last time Carr did not start a game was back in 2017 when he missed a game early in the season with an injury. He’s been incredibly durable for the Raiders during his career, rarely missing time with injuries. There is still a lot that has to be figured out in the Derek Carr saga, but it does feel like his time with the Raiders has come to a conclusion. Josh McDaniels does not blame Josh Jacobs for frustrations, Raiders 'have to pass the ball better'

Frustrations boiled over following the Raiders latest collapse. This one coming in Pittsburgh where the offense once again couldn’t score in the second half and blew their one-score lead. No one expressed their frustrations quite as strongly as Josh Jacobs who had been carrying this team much of the season, but saw just 15 carries despite the cold weather suggesting a heavy does of the run. The result was Derek Carr throwing three interceptions and the defense wearing down after a strong performance until the final ten minutes of the game. Monday McDaniels was asked about Jacobs’s postgame comments and he had no issues with what Jacobs said. “I love the guy. He should have the ball more than any other player on our team. And he has,” McDaniels said of Jacobs. “I love his passion, his fight, he wants to help us win in any way he can. We gotta do a better job of being productive so we can stay out of those situations where the running game becomes difficult to stick with.” “Our guys want to win. There’s been a handful of guys that have done that. It’s an emotional sport, it’s an emotional game. Hell, I wasn’t real excited after the game either. So, I think the reality is you’re allowed to be frustrated. You handle it the right way and you do things the right way. JJ expressed his feelings. It is what it is, you’re going to have that at times. But I’ve said this a number of times; I love the guy. I think he stands for the right things. He wants to help us win. He should.” It’s one thing to abandon the run. Generally speaking, that’s not a good idea when you have the league’s leading rusher. But if the defense is loading up the box to dare you to pass, you have to be able to accept that challenge and step up to force them to stay honest. The Raiders simply weren’t able to do that. And this isn’t a problem that happened simply because it was cold outside. “For us to be able to win at this time of the year, and be productive offensively, you have to throw the ball better than what we’ve done at time in the last month and a half,” McDaniels said. “We’ve been able to win some in spite of that overall, but clearly that’s not the goal. The goal would be to be more productive than what we have been.” McDaniels says he thinks Derek Carr needs to play better, though he doesn’t place the blame solely on Carr for the failings in the pass game. But there’s no way around Carr taking a large share of the blame. Carr’s numbers over the past four games has been abysmal. He has completed just over 53% of his passes over that time and has a passer rating of 66.8. He has put up the two worst passer ratings of his career in two of the past three games while throwing more interceptions (six) than touchdowns (four). No wonder the Steelers loaded up the box and dared Carr to beat them. That plan worked like a charm. Email Sign up Like this article? Miscues, missed chances cost Raiders in loss to Steelers

When Derek Carr threw his third and final interception — a floater that Pittsburgh’s Cam Sutton corralled with 29 seconds left — all the good mojo the Raiders had built while winning four of five to get back into the fringe of the postseason race had vanished. Turning it over three times, committing a handful of costly penalties and being unable to take advantage of Pittsburgh’s inexperienced and ineffective offense will do that.

Frigid Christmas Eve temperatures in Pittsburgh for Raiders vs Steelers

Weather warnings are happening across the country today. Basically the only parts of the country not affected are those west of the Rockies. Like Las Vegas. But the Raiders aren’t playing in Las Vegas today. They’re in Pittsburgh. Where it’s positively frozen. As of 3pm local time, the temperatures are still in single digits, with a wind chill that makes it feel like sub zero temperatures. The forecast says the winds should calm down by the start of the game at 8:15 local time. But the temperature is still expected to be just 14 degrees. In case you were wondering, Derek Carr has never played in a game with temps this low before. And has never won a game with a temp below 37 degrees. That temp is gonna seem downright tropical compared to the temperature for tonight’s game. Here are 2 lowest game-time temperatures for #Raiders w/ Derek Carr at QB: 21 degrees in 21-13 L to KC 2016: 17 for 41, 117 yards, 0 TD, 0 INT 29 degrees in 19-10 L Phi: 15-29, 140, 1 TD, 2 INTs He is 0-5 with a 70.1 passer rating in 5 games played w/ game-time temp 37 or lower https://t.co/1eShwQ2S8Z — Josh Dubow (@JoshDubowAP) December 23, 2022 Typically what this means is lower scoring games with each team relying more on the ground game. That ball is as hard as a rock and so is the field while the players will be wearing more gear to try and stay warm. That’s a recipe for turnovers. Email Sign up Like this article? Julian Edelman: Mac Jones Should Have Tripped Chandler Jones on Game-Winning Play

Former New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman offered a solution that would have saved Mac Jones the humiliation of being on the receiving end of Chandler Jones' stiff arm on the final play of Sunday's game against the Las Vegas Raiders. Even though Jones became the butt of most jokes after the play, the end result wasn't his fault.

Raiders-Steelers will be bittersweet after Harris death

We’re all heartbroken, but we do look forward to honoring him and his legacy this weekend,” Pittsburgh coach Mike Tomlin said. "And obviously, where our attention needs to be is on the preparation required to put together the type of performance that’s fitting of a great man like Franco. It's almost certainly what Harris would have wanted.

Walk-off Sunday: 3 games end with TDs on 1 day for 2nd time

An inexplicable botched lateral, a deflected pick-6 and a touchdown run provided one of the rarest days in NFL history. Chandler Jones returned a fumble 48 yards for a TD to end regulation and lift Las Vegas over New England, Rayshawn Jenkins had a pick-6 in overtime to push Jacksonville past Dallas, and Jerick McKinnon scored on a 26-yard run in OT to give Kansas City a win over Houston. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the only other day three games ended with a go-ahead touchdown came on Sept. 17, 1995, when Emmitt Smith (TD run in OT for Dallas vs. Minnesota), Rod Smith (TD catch to end regulation for Denver vs. Washington), and James Hasty (pick-6 in OT for Kansas City vs. Oakland) did it.

Raiders newcomer Cole makes presence known with huge TD catch

There was once a time where Keelan Cole was seen as the unsung hero for his team. When he burst onto the scene with the Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted free agent out of Western Kentucky five years ago, Cole was seen as the secret weapon in a budding Jacksonville offense. Now, he’s in a crowded wide receiver room with the Las Vegas Raiders.

Raiders' crazy last-second win over Pats still talk of NFL

The play helped the Raiders finally hold on to a double-digit halftime lead. Until Sunday, they were 0-4 in such situations, the first team since at least 1930 to blow that kind of advantage that many times. A team that has found creative ways to lose finally found a unique way to win, with a massive assist from the other side.

Disastrous last play sums up day of mistakes by Patriots

Collectively made too many mistakes and gave up some big plays that were obviously the difference in the game,” Belichick said. One mistake in particular handed the Raiders the win and knocked the Patriots (7-7) out of playoff position in the AFC. With the game tied, New England running back Rhamondre Stevenson gained 23 yards on the final play before pitching the ball to wide receiver Jakobi Meyers, who then backtracked before heaving it toward quarterback Mac Jones.
