ESPN shares Raiders' storyline to watch vs. Bengals, offers bold prediction

The Las Vegas Raiders (2-6) return to action with a Week 9 date at the Cincinnati Bengals (3-5) on Sunday.

The Raiders are looking to snap their first four-game losing streak since the 2019 season during their trip to Paycor Stadium.

The last time the Raiders and Bengals met was during the 2021 season in the NFL Playoffs’ Wild Card round. Cincinnati won that contest on Jan. 15, 2022, by a final tally of 26-19.

Bengals star quarterback Joe Burrow passed for 244 yards and a pair of scores in that win over the Raiders. Cincinnati also topped Las Vegas in the 2021 regular season, 32-13.

As kickoff approaches, ESPN shared its top storyline for the Raiders in this matchup against the Bengals.

The Raiders have already used four different starting offensive line combinations in eight games and might have to deploy a fifth against the Bengals. Center Andre James is dealing with a right ankle injury that knocked him out of last week’s loss to the Chiefs. Rookie left guard Jackson Powers-Johnson, who won the 2023 Rimington Trophy as the best college center, slid over to close out the game, without much of a drop-off. – Paul Gutierrez, ESPN.

The Raiders did rule James out for their Week 9 contest at Cincinnati. It sets the stage for Powers-Johnson to make his first NFL start.

ESPN also offered up a bold prediction for the matchup.

Raiders wide receiver Jakobi Meyers will record 80-plus receiving yards. Meyers will face Bengals corner Cam Taylor-Britt, who has allowed 1.9 yards per coverage snap — fourth most among all outside corners with at least 100 coverage snaps. – Seth Walder, ESPN.

Meyers enters the contest as the Raiders’ second-leading receiver with 31 receptions for 325 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Meyers is yet to eclipse the 80-yard receiving plateau thus far this season. The 6-foot-2, 200 pound sixth-year receiver caught six passes for 52 yards and a score last week in the Raiders’ 27-20 loss against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Kickoff for the Raiders at the Bengals is set for 10 a.m. PT on Fox.
