How bad is Raiders rushing attack? Just look at their former feature back's numbers this season

There are many stats you can use to show how bad the Raiders have been on the ground this season. Fist and foremost is simply looking at their numbers compared to the rest of the league where they are dead last in yards (692) and yards per carry (3.5).

Another way would be to compare their rush numbers to that of the last feature back they had prior to this season.

Josh Jacobs was allowed to leave as a free agent this offseason. A year after the team had retained him on a the franchise tag.

The Packers seem to be ok with their investment. Jacobs is currently fourth in the league with 762 yards rushing. That’s right, he has more yards alone than the entire Raiders team and in the same number of games.

In fact, if Jacobs continues to run at his season pace of 84.7 yards per game, he will surpass his entire 13-game 2023 total (805) this week.

The Packers are also sitting at 6-3 on the season.

Safe to say he’s enjoying his time in Green Bay instead of running into brick walls in the Raiders offense.

Jacobs isn’t alone among individual backs outpacing the Raiders either. He is one of five backs this season to have more rushing yards AND averaging more yards per game by themselves than the entire Raiders team (76.9).

Derrck Henry — 112 ypg (10)

Saquon Barkley — 110.1 ypg (9)

Chuba Hubbard — 81.8 ypg (10)

Josh Jacobs — 84.7 ypg (9)

Jahmyr Gibbs — 80.8 ypg (9)

These kinds of numbers were a primary reason the Raiders fired offensive coordinator Luke Getsy last week after just nine games along with two other members of the offensive coaching staff.

They came into the season saying they were going to build the offense around the run game and that plan has proven to be a big reason for their demise. They sit at 2-7 having lost five straight.

The Raiders now come out of the bye week where they hope the changes on the offensive staff will make a positive difference in how the team performs.

3 bold predictions for the second half of the Raiders' season

The Las Vegas Raiders had an opportunity to make some moves as the trade deadline approached last week to gain draft capital for next season, but instead, they elected to stay put and try to build from what they have in-house. The week off still brought multiple changes to the organization; however, Antonio Pierce chose to move on from first-year offensive coordinator Luke Getsy to offensive line coach James Cregg and quarterbacks coach Rich Scangarello.

It’s been a month now since Davante Adams got his wish and was traded to the New York Jets. Things weren’t going as Adams had hoped with the Raiders. The former Packers receiver wanted to be reunited with his old pal Aaron Rodgers in. New York in the hopes they could rekindle their connection from Green Bay.

That hasn’t really happened so far.

By every metric, things are actually going worse for Adams with the Jets than they were over the his three games with the Raiders to begin this season.

He has fewer receiving yards in four games with the Jets (206) than he did in three games with the Raiders (209) and has been on the losing end of more games (3) as well.

If you’re looking for a straight up comparisons, the fair thing to do would be to remove his first game from the equation since he played that game less than a week after joining the team. So, let’s put his numbers over the his last three games up against those of his first three games of this season in Las Vegas.

It is pretty surprisingly honestly to see him go from a clunky offense led by Gardner Minshew to reuniting with his former MVP QB and actually see his numbers go down. Not to mention the team not perform any better in the win column.

For all this, his new team has lost just as many games (7) as his old team, and has the same number of wins with him on the field.

In terms of the compensation on the trade, this isn’t necessarily something Raiders fans should be celebrating. The conditions for the pick to jump from a third rounder to a second rounder were either the Jets making the AFC Championship game or Adams being named at least second team All Pro. Neither of those things appears likely at this point.

The only possible good news here is if the Jets keep losing, at least that third round pick will be a high pick. If they were to start winning now and not reach those conditions, that would be the worst case scenario for where the Raiders would be picking.

NFL picks, predictions for Week 11: Miami Dolphins vs. Las Vegas Raiders

The Las Vegas Raiders are an absolute dumpster fire entering their Week 11 game, which is great news for their opponent, the Miami Dolphins, a team trying to get its season back on track. The Raiders are in the midst of a terrible year that has seen them drop five straight games after starting out 2-2. The Raiders had a chance to take a breather during their bye last week, and the team made some changes to its coaching staff, most notably firing offensive coordinator Luke Getsy, who will be replaced in the interim by passing-game coordinator, Scott Turner. The Dolphins saw their 2024 campaign derailed due to the latest concussion for quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

Former Raiders head coach arrested for Driving While Intoxicated

In this episode of ‘where are they now’ we have some news about former Raiders and Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio. And it isn’t good news.

Reports are out Monday that Del Rio was arrested last Friday for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) when he crashed his car into a street sign.

Wisconsin staff member Jack Del Rio, the former NFL coach, was arrested early Friday for operating while intoxicated after a car he was driving hit a street sign and broke a fence. He “showed signs of impairment,” per Madison police. No injuries were reported.

— Adam Rittenberg (@ESPNRittenberg) November 11, 2024

Del Rio last coached in the NFL in 2023 when he was a defensive coordinator for the Washington Commanders.

His last head coaching job was with the Raiders from 2015-17 where he had a 25-23 record. Prior to that he was a head coach for nine seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars, posting a 68-71 record, this giving him a 93-94 record as a head coach with just one career playoff win.

Del Rio led the Raiders to a 12-4 record in 2016, but was ousted in the wildcard round. He was fired just a year later after the team regressed to finish 6-10, ushering in Jon Gruden’s return to the sideline.

Best Fits for the Raiders in the Upcoming NFL Draft

The Las Vegas Raiders desperately need a talented quarterback. Chris Trapasso of CBS Sports believes the Raiders must address their quarterback situation once and for all. Like many others, he feels the Raiders will do so by using their first-round draft pick on the position. At 2-8, the Raiders are in a position to select one of the draft's top quarterbacks.

Maxx Crosby, fellow Raiders players voice frustrations over lack of organization

When things are trending the way that they have been for the Las Vegas Raiders, it’s only natural for team leaders to speak up and let their voices be heard.

It’s also to be expected that there would be some frustration involved when they do.

With the Raiders currently sliding through a five-game losing skid, star defensive end and team captain Maxx Crosby alongside several teammates were given the opportunity to sound off on Las Vegas’ current situation in an open-floor, players-and-staff meeting.

Per a report from CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones, Crosby and his teammates addressed what they viewed as inefficiencies and deficiencies within the organization on a week-to-week basis.

After Monday’s coaches meeting, the team met with the staff and the floor was open for anyone to speak their mind. According to sources present, a few themes emerged. Players had issues with the schedule not being efficient. There was a lack of organization and “wasting time,” and there was a “lack of discipline and accountability.”

One source described the meeting as ending “uncomfortably for all parties.” – Jones, CBS Sports.

As typifies this type of meeting, the hope according to Jones was that the talks result in positive change for the Raiders during the second half of the season.

Ahead of their bye week, head coach Antonio Pierce and the franchise overhauled their offensive staff following the Raiders’ 41-24 loss at Cincinnati.

Offensive coordinator Luke Getsy, quarterbacks coach Rich Scangarello and offensive line coach James Cregg were all fired after the loss to the Bengals.

Las Vegas brought in former head coach Norv Turner as a senior advisor. Scott Turner, Norv’s son, was elevated from passing game coordinator to interim offensive coordinator and Joe Philbin has taken over as the Raiders’ interim offensive line coach after previously serving as a senior offensive assistant.

Jones noted that this meeting was “nothing like one between the players and head coach from almost exactly a year ago.”

That pre-Halloween meeting saw Raiders players rip then-head coach Josh McDaniels for the way he behaved and how he ran the team. Raiders owner Mark Davis fired McDaniels just a few days later.

Crosby and the Raiders hope to reverse their fortunes as they report back from their bye week on Monday. The Raiders travel to Miami (2-6) on Sunday, Nov. 17 with kickoff set for 10 a.m. PT.

Panthers win over Giants good news for Raiders

The Raiders are off this week, but that doesn’t mean the games don’t mean anything to them.

As they sit at 2-7, they are among a whole host of teams who have a shot at the number one overall pick.

Two of those teams faced off in Germany today — the Giants and Panthers. That game went final with the Panthers getting the 20-17 OT win. And that’s good news for the Raiders.

On the surface, it looks like it wouldn’t matter considering one team will have a better record regardless, and thus drop out from among the group of two-win teams. But that’s not really the case. Because if teams have the same record, who gets the higher pick is dependent upon strength of schedule.

In this case, the Giants already have a stronger schedule than the Raiders, so they weren’t ahead of them anyway. It’s the Panthers who have a weaker schedule than the Raiders, and therefore the Panthers win ensures they move out of the way of the Raiders.

This means there are four teams still ahead of the Raiders in the draft order as we head into the main slate of Sunday games — Patriots, Jaguars, Saints, and Browns.

Could the Raiders wind up with the No. 1 overall 2025 NFL draft pick?

With the team in the midst of its bye week, the Las Vegas Raiders (2-7) entered losers of five straight.

There’s been a myriad of issues throughout this front half of the season for Las Vegas. Instability and poor play from its quarterbacks and a rushing offense that ranks second-to-last in yardage in the NFL have been chief among the Raiders’ issues.

As Raider fans wonder what might be next, ESPN analyst Jordan Reid shared a midseason prediction for Las Vegas.

Reid’s prediction is one that will be met with celebration from plenty in the Raider Nation. Reid is forecasting that the Raiders will lose out and have the top pick in the 2025 NFL draft.

After firing offensive coordinator Luke Getsy, a strong argument could be made they are already the worst team in the NFL. There are nine teams with two or fewer wins, which is tied for the most teams through Week 9 since the 1970 merger, per ESPN Research (nine teams in 2006).

The Raiders have lost their past five games, and I expect that streak to climb to 13 by season’s end. They’ll have the No. 1 overall pick for the first time since 2007, when they selected JaMarcus Russell with the franchise’s only top selection. – Reid, ESPN.

Coming into Sunday, those other eight teams with two wins include the Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots, Cleveland Browns, Tennessee Titans, Jacksonville Jaguars, New York Giants, Carolina Panthers and New Orleans Saints.

The Raiders will see three of those teams in the back half of their 2024 season, including Miami who Las Vegas plays next after the bye week on Nov. 23.

Las Vegas will also host Jacksonville on Dec. 22 and then travel to New Orleans on Dec. 29. The Raiders lost to Carolina in Week 3 and beat Cleveland the following week.

ESPN unveils Raiders' biggest offseason need, NFL draft prospect that could fit

ESPN unveils Raiders' biggest offseason need, NFL draft prospect that could fit

The Las Vegas Raiders (2-7) are in the midst of their bye week on the heels of a 41-24 loss at the Cincinnati Bengals.

The Raiders’ loss to the Bengals has Las Vegas mired in a five-game losing streak. With the season slipping away and offensive shortcomings as one of the key culprits, Las Vegas overhauled its offensive staff.

The Raiders fired offensive coordinator Luke Getsy, quarterbacks coach Rich Scangarello and offensive line coach James Cregg. That trio were all in their first seasons with Las Vegas and were handed their pink slips just nine games into the season.

Las Vegas retooled by bringing back a familiar face and restructuring roles for a pair of existing staff members.

The Raiders added former head coach Norv Turner (2004-05) to the staff as a senior advisor, while elevating Norv’s son, Scott Turner, from passing game coordinator to interim offensive coordinator. Joe Philbin moved into the role of interim offensive line coach after previously serving as the Raiders’ senior offensive assistant.

At this point, though, all of these moves feel like temporary Band-Aids until the real show begins in the offseason.

Where will Las Vegas be picking and who will they select in the 2025 NFL draft? That’s the question a lot of Raider fans want answered.

With the 2024 NFL season at its midseason marker, ESPN broke down each franchise’s biggest offseason need. The pick for the Raiders’ biggest 2025 offseason need is not a shocking one.

Quarterback. Theoretically, sure, the Raiders could go into 2025 with Gardner Minshew (38.5 QBR) and Aidan O’Connell (48.0 QBR) competing for the job again. But should they? Not if they want to be a contender. – Aaron Schatz, ESPN.

It’s a foregone conclusion that the Raiders will be in the quarterback market during the 2025 offseason and the most likely avenue will be the 2025 NFL draft.

Which draft prospect does ESPN fits best?

Shedeur Sanders, QB, Colorado. Sanders’ accuracy, toughness in the pocket and quick-strike ability as a thrower would put him in position to immediately be the Raiders’ starter. He’s the top QB on my board. – Matt Miller, ESPN.

Sanders has been tremendous at Colorado and will be in the mix as the No. 1 overall draft selection. The 6-foot-2, 215 pound quarterback is completing 72.9% of his passes, has thrown for 2,882 yards and 24 touchdowns and has the Buffs in the hunt for a Big 12 Championship.

The son of Prime Time, could Sanders be the franchise quarterback that helps the Raiders chart a return to glory?

When the Las Vegas Raiders traded wide receiver Davante Adams to the New York Jets, the move left the team short at the position, both now and in the future. Former Raiders DE claimed off waivers by Patriots

This week the Raiders saw one of their former edge rushers hit the waiver wire, potentially giving them the chance to bring him back to bolster their pass rush.

Yannick Ngakoue was waived by the Ravens on Thursday, which means any team looking for a bit of pass rush could put a claim in on him. The New England Patriots were the team that landed him off waivers. And according to ESPN’s Tom Pelissero, the Raiders didn’t put in a claim.

The Patriots were joined by one other team in attempting to claim Yannick Ngakoue: the Bengals.

New England had priority over Cincinnati, otherwise Ngakoue – who was waived just priority to the Ravens defeating the Bengals – would have stayed in the AFC North.

— Field Yates (@FieldYates) November 9, 2024

Ngakoue was signed to a two-year deal by the Raiders back in 2021 and started 17 games for them that season, collecting ten sacks, which was his second best season in his ten NFL seasons.

Even still, the Raiders traded him to the Colts just after the new league year in March of the following offseason in exchange for CB Rock Ya Sin.

Ngakoue spent just one season with the Colts before signing a free agent deal with the Bears, where he also spent just one season. In fact, he hasn’t spent more than one season with a team since he came off his rookie contract with the Jaguars. Strange considering his 70.5 career sacks and the value the league places on pass rushers.

ESPN grades Raiders' Davante Adams trade after deadline

The 2024 NFL trade deadline has come and passed.

Though the move happened all the way back on Oct. 15, the Las Vegas Raiders were involved in one of this season’s biggest trades.

The Raiders traded away star receiver Davante Adams to the New York Jets after their 32-13 Week 6 loss versus the Pittsburgh Steelers. At the time, the Raiders had slipped to 2-4 after consecutive losses.

Meanwhile, the Jets had an identical 2-4 mark. But, with quarterback Aaron Rodgers back healthy from the torn Achilles that ended his 2023 season before it ever got started, the hope was for the Jets to be a serious player in the AFC picture.

Needing an offensive spark, the Jets trading for Rodgers’ former teammate in Green Bay made perfect sense.

For the Raiders, keeping an unhappy receiver on a team with an unsettled quarterback situation probably didn’t add up when an opportunity to build for the future presented itself.

With that in mind, the Raiders dealt Adams away to the Jets for a conditional third-round 2025 NFL draft pick. The pick could become a second-round selection for the Raiders if Adams becomes a first- or second-team All-Pro this season or if he’s on the active roster should the Jets make the AFC Championship Game or Super Bowl LIX.

With the trade deadline in the rearview, ESPN’s Seth Walder assigned NFL trade deadline grades.

Walder gave the Raiders a B- grade for the trade.

As for the Raiders, I want to be clear that the B-minus grade is strictly for their decision-making today. Their entire Adams trade saga deserves an F for the obviousness of the team’s error. Adams has been an aging and declining player on a bad team with a value contract for a long time now, and it was only stubbornness by the franchise that it did not trade him before this season, or last trade deadline, or the offseason before that. The delay was costly: Vegas could have gotten far more in return 12 months ago. Instead, it kept him in order to deal him for less now while achieving zero playoff berths as a result.

That being said, once the Raiders found themselves in the position they did Tuesday — with a lackluster team and a 32-year-old star receiver who wants out — of course the correct move is to deal him. Whatever the best price they could get was the best price they could get. – Walder, ESPN.

At the end of the day, at least the Raiders did find compensation for Adams. The prudent play for the franchise was to move on and start charting a different path for its future.

Adams tallied 221 receptions for 2,869 receiving yards and 23 touchdown grabs across parts of three seasons with the Raiders.

The Raiders (2-7) are currently in the midst of their bye week and mired in a five-game losing streak. Las Vegas will look to get back into the win column when it returns to play in Week 11 with a date at the Miami Dolphins (2-6).

The Denver Broncos will face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this Sunday, and if the Buccaneers win the matchup, they will deal a severe blow to the Broncos' postseason hopes. As a matter of fact, Denver's chances of landing a playoff berth will dip to 42 percent with a loss against Tampa Bay.

HENDERSON, Nev. (AP) — Anybody can be replaced. The Raiders head into their bye week mired in a five-game losing skid and with plenty to fix under first-year coach Antonio Pierce. Norv Turner was added to the coaching staff as a senior advisor. Believe it or not, Raiders have reasons to be optimistic about the future

There are no two ways about it: the Las Vegas Raiders are a mess as they hit their bye week, and things are not going to get better over the final eight games of the 2024 campaign, which is going to make the next month-plus tough to sit through. Head coach Antonio Pierce has been a major disappointment, as has most of his coaching staff, which is why the Raiders made changes recently and brought in a 72-year-old former head coach to try and help figure things out. The biggest issue of the bunch for Las Vegas is the fact that it doesn't have a young quarterback of the future on its roster, and finding one of those is far easier said than done. While it's hard to be optimistic about anything right now, there are reasons for fans to be hopeful for the future.

Raiders $7 million starter predicted to ditch Las Vegas for Saints

The Las Vegas Raiders will have a slew of players to make decisions on in free agency next offseason, but few are more important than safety Tre'Von Moehrig. After an inconsistent start to his career, Moehrig has found his stride since 2023 and is once again having a strong season despite the mess that is the Raiders through nine games. Moehrig's two picks are one shy of his career-high, he's on his way to 100 tackles for the first time in his career and he already has a career-best four tackles for loss. Being a key member of their defense, the Raiders are going to want to bring him back in 2025, but Bleacher Report's Scouting Department has other ideas and thinks he'll end up with the New Orleans Saints.

Eagles predicted to land Raiders defender to address future need

The Las Vegas Raiders are going to have a lot of decisions to make next offseason, as several key players are going to hit the open market in 2025. One of them is defensive lineman Adam Butler. While Butler isn't one of the more high-profile Raiders set to hit free agency, he is a notable name nonetheless. The 30-year-old has been pushed into a bigger role this season and is a quality rotational player Las Vegas will likely want to keep.
