Davante Adams calls sideline meeting, fires up Raiders' offense
After six-plus quarters of anemic offensive football -- the Las Vegas Raiders had just 43 yards of total offense at halftime, with just 4 yards coming on the ground -- Davante Adams had seen enough. "It got ... not rowdy, but I had to speak up a little bit and use some voices just to get guys going," Adams said. Las Vegas, which trailed by 10 points with more than 10 minutes to play, rallied for a 26-23 victory to get its first win of the season. Indeed, the Raiders had lost 49 straight games when trailing by 10 or more points during the fourth quarter, dating to the 2016 season opener against the New Orleans Saints, according to ESPN Research.

3 Players To Watch in Ravens vs. Raiders
After a heartbreaking loss to the Kansas City Chiefs last week, the Baltimore Ravens return to the warm embrace of M&T Bank Stadium for the first time this season when they host the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday. The Raiders may not be as intimidating as their AFC West rivals, but the Ravens know they can't overlook any opponent. With that in mind, here are three Baltimore players whose performances on Sunday could sway the entire game. This week, Stanley will look to cut down on the penalties while facing one of the best edge rushers in the league.

Exclusive: Raiders OL Jakcson Powers-Johnson From the Locker Room Ravens Week
HENDERSON, Nev.--The Las Vegas Raiders are a disappointing 0-1 in the early 2024 NFL regular season. The quickest way to heal the wound of that disappointing loss to the Chargers would be to upset the Ravens this weekend.

49ers attempted to acquire Raiders receiver in surprising proposal
The San Francisco 49ers certainly were active throughout the summer. San Francisco had to make a handful of moves after losing in the Super Bowl to the Kansas City Chiefs and is in a good spot right now, despite superstar running back Christian McCaffrey currently on the Injured Reserve. The 49ers were active and luckily were able to hang on to all of their stars. It seemed like the 49ers were going to trade star receiver Brandon Aiyuk at one point, but luckily they landed him on a new deal.

Sunday Sweats: Eight bets to add to your NFL Week 2 card
The wish was that the arrival and rebirth of the Sunday Sweats would trigger a turnaround for the recently dwindling bottom line of the weekend betting column, and it came true in Week 1. The column hit all three of its point-spread bets placed earlier in the summer, both player props and saw the Lions survive in overtime to cash a four-team moneyline parlay. Overall, I went 8-4 with a return of more than $1,100 to begin the NFL season in this space. Bets placed outside of the weekly NFL pick'em will also be accounted for here.

Raiders activate former 1st round pick days after signing him to practice squad
You can’t have too many pass rushers. But you can have too few. And at present the Raiders are lacking in that department.
They lost Malcolm Koonce to a knee injury just before the season opener, prompting them to sign Charles Snowden off the practice squad to the active roster. Then six snaps into that game, they lost Tyree Wilson to a knee injury.
Koonce’s injury had him placed on injured reserve. The Wilson knee injury is a sprain, which will have him out an unknown amount of time. To prepare for his absence, and to replace Snowden’s spot on the practice squad, they added K’Lavon Chaisson to the practice squad.
The former first round pick is still just 25 and therefore still carries that hope that he will live up to his potential. And with Wilson officially OUT this week, the Raiders are apparently ready to give him a shot already.
C/haisson has been activated from the practice squad for Sunday’s game in Baltimore along with CB Sam Webb who had been elevated for the season opener as well.
With Chaisson in the mix, the Raiders will go into the game with four edge rushers on the roster along with Maxx Crosby, Janarius Robinson, and Snowden.
Webb offers needed depth as well, giving them five active cornerbacks along with Nate Hobbs, Jack Jones, Jakorian Bennett, and Darnay Holmes.

Raiders-Ravens Week 2 Injury Report: Tyree Wilson, Decamerion Richardson ruled out
Las Vegas Raiders: DE Tyree Wilson has been ruled out for the Week 2 matchup against the Ravens due to the knee injury he suffered last week. CB Decamerion Richardson (hamstring) was a non-participant in practice this week and is also out. Powers-Johnson (illness) is questionable to play and will be a game-time decision, per Coach Pierce. The rookie guard missed last week's game with an illness. Pierce expects LB Tommy Eichenberg, who was inactive last week with a knee injury, to make his Raiders debut, seeing action primarily on special teams.

3 Key matchups to watch for in Raiders vs Ravens Week 2
It’s off to Baltimore for the Raiders this week to square off against the Ravens. Let’s take a look at a few key matchups that could be of particular importance to the outcome.
Robert Spillane vs Derrick Henry
Last week the Raiders held up well against the run in the first half. Then it fell apart in the second half. Spillane wasn’t specifically to blame for any of the big runs the Chargers had in terms of execution. He didn’t miss those tackles and he didn’t screw up his run fits.
That being said, Henry has a way of forcing missed tackles. And it will be Spillane’s job to make sure his teammates are playing disciplined football. Particularly Divine Deablo had a couple big lapses last week that cost the Raiders big time. Spillane will have to not only do his job on a given play, but make sure his teammates are doing theirs. And even when he’s doing his job to keep Henry from winning their one-on-one battles.
Maxx Crosby vs Lamar Jackson
The Ravens’ offensive line has some issues at the moment. Crosby should get some pressure, as you typically does, but that won’t be enough in this one. It’s one thing to get into the backfield, it’s another to corral Lamar Jackson.
Crosby will have to think not only about getting pressure, but also protecting the edge from Jackson taking off running and also catching Jackson should he get near him. Jackson put up 122 yards rushing against the Chiefs in the opener and he will do that to the Raiders too if they’re not careful. Crosby is the most capable of limiting that damage.
Gardner Minshew vs Ravens secondary
The Ravens are vulnerable against the pass. The Chiefs had some good success through the air against them. Rashee Rice had 103 yards and Xavier Worthy had two touchdowns. And they will be without rookie top pick Nate Wiggins who is OUT with a concussion.
What the Chiefs have that makes most secondaries vulnerable is Patrick Mahomes. He can make anyone look silly. The Chiefs don’t have the talent at receiver the Raiders have, so that should count for something. Whether it does or not will be up to Minshew. He averaged an NFL low 4.5 air yards per pass last week. That has to change if the Raiders offense is to sustain drives and put up more than ten points.

Ravens will look to get offense rolling against Raiders
Baltimore coach John Harbaugh said the team doesn't want to be one-dimensional, even though the Ravens added four-time Pro Bowl running back Derrick Henry in the offseason. The Ravens are trying to build an offense that can attack teams in various ways and they don't want to rely too heavily on the running game, which ranked No. 1 in the NFL last season. “We didn't bring Derrick in here to be the guy that gets the ball 30 times a game,” Harbaugh said this week. Henry had just 13 carries for 46 yards with a five-yard touchdown in a 27-20 season-opening loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

Raiders' Davante Adams: Ravens QB Lamar Jackson has a legendary trait
The Las Vegas Raiders have a tough test on Sunday, as the team will travel to Baltimore to take on the Ravens in Week 2. The silver and black suffered a frustrating loss to the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 1. The offense struggled to sustain drives and the defense failed to contain the Chargers' rushing attack. The Raiders' incompetent rush defense was a pivotal reason for their defeat last Sunday, with the unit surrendering 176 rushing yards, including 135 to JK Dobbins on just 10 carries.

Could Alexander Mattison overtake Zamir White for Raiders lead running back?
The Las Vegas Raiders fell to the Los Angeles Chargers 22-10 on Sunday, as the Raiders' offense struggled to sustain drives and scored just three points in the final three quarters. Las Vegas will look to bounce back in Week 2 as the team travels to Baltimore to take on the Ravens on Sunday, September 15. A primary reason for the Raiders' sluggish offense was the inefficient rushing attack. As a team, Las Vegas ran for just 71 yards and averaged 3.2 yards per carry.

Raiders PFF grades: 5 highest-rated from Week 1 vs Chargers
A day after the Raiders fell short in their Week 1 matchup with the Chargers, it’s clear the team has a lot of work to do before contending for a playoff spot this season.
But it’s just one game, and despite the 22-10 score, there were a few positives. Pro Football Focus watched the gameday film before revealing their top-performing Raiders, and it’s no surprise most of them play defense.
Linebacker Robert Spillane earned the highest mark, and three defenders joined him, including the Raiders’ big-money free agent, defensive tackle Christian Wilkins.
The highest-graded Raiders in Week 1 vs the Chargers:
Robert Spillane – 84.0
John Jenkins – 83.6
Dylan Parham – 83.2
Christian Wilkins – 80.8
Maxx Crosby – 76.5 pic.twitter.com/OsCt3t9mzj
— PFF Las Vegas Raiders (@PFF_Raiders) September 9, 2024
Both Wilkins and defensive end Maxx Crosby appear on the list despite performing poorly against Chargers rookie left tackle Joe Alt in pass-rush situations.
Joe Alt vs Maxx Crosby and Christian Wilkins
19 pass blocking snaps
0 pressures allowed
Not bad for a rookie pic.twitter.com/V3eULB3B31
— PFF (@PFF) September 9, 2024
Defensive tackle John Jenkins got off to a strong start to follow up on a strong season last year, and despite issues blocking against the Chargers, guard Dylan Parham also graded well on Sunday.
Once the Raiders score more than 10 points in a game, we’ll see more offensive players on this list. But for now, PFF’s grades confirm what we know: the defense is solid and the Raiders offense has to find its way before this season goes off the rails.

Week 1 game recap: Chargers wear down Raiders defense to run away with 22-10 win
There weren’t a whole lot of surprises in the first half between the Raiders and Chargers. The Raiders defense was playing well and it was a one score game at the half.
After two three-and-outs, the Raiders went on a touchdown drive, with Alexander Mattison making the highlight reel play, hurdling a defender to go 31-yard for the score.
Otherwise, the Raiders offense struggled in the first half. Including a couple turnovers on fumbles. Meanwhile the defense was dialing up great pressure on Justin Herbert to hold the Chargers to a couple field goals.
It would come down to who made the adjustments at the half. And it was the Chargers who came out victorious. Most of it came on the ground.
After holding the Chargers to under 30 yards rushing in the first half, the Chargers eventually wore down the Raiders defense and scored two touchdowns to literally run away with the 22-10 victory.
The Raiders started to swing momentum back their way and were winning the field position battled down six points. But the decision to punt on fourth and one in LA territory would burn them as the Chargers broke off a 61-yard JK Dobbins run and finished it off with a touchdown to call game.

Watch: Raiders RB Alexander Mattison hurdles defender on incredible 31-yard touchdown
Not much was doing for the Raiders offense through much of the first quarter of their opener against the Chargers. They didn’t pick up a first down on their first two drives with a punt and a turnover on downs.
Three Zamir White runs in short yardage were stuffed for no gain or a loss.
Then the third drive, everything changed. Gardner Minshew found Davante Adams for 19 yards and then for another 11 yards. Then the early highlight of the game came from Alexander Mattison who took a short pass in the right flat and did this:

Mattison looked like he was going to be stopped for a short gain. Then he posterized CB Asante Samuel Jr, hurdling him and without breaking stride, streaked up the right sideline 31 yards for the score.

Vikings' McCarthy stays optimistic despite the discouragement of a season-ending injury
J.J. McCarthy knew when he was prepped for knee surgery that the absence or presence of a brace on his right leg when he awoke from the procedure would provide an immediate sign of the state of his rookie season with the Minnesota Vikings. “I was definitely upset, that's for sure,” McCarthy said. In less than three weeks, though, McCarthy is scheduled to shed the brace and begin walking again. “You take everything that life throws at you, and you find the positives in it, good or bad,” McCarthy said Friday at his cubicle in the locker room in his first interview with reporters since the surgery on Aug. 14 for a medial and radial tear of his meniscus revealed a need for a full repair and the longer rehab that comes with it.

Watch: Raiders rookie RB Dylan Laube shows off sick dance moves at practice
It is becoming more and more clear that Dylan Laube fits right in with this Raiders team. While we talk about the personalities of the likes of Maxx Crosby, Christian Wilkins, Jack Jones, Nate Hobbs, and Gardner Minshew, it’s time we put Laube in that conversation as well.
The most recent example was during Friday’s practice when Laube put on some righteous dance moves for his Raiders teammates as captured here by Paul Gutierrez of ESPN.

— Paul Gutierrez (@PGutierrezESPN) September 6, 2024
As Gutierrez notes, he earned the nickname “Cheddar Bob” this offseason for his antics which included a bang on and hilarious impression of teammate Maxx Crosby during the team’s beach day at the close of training camp in Costa Mesa.
