One of the top names set to hit the market is Josh Jacobs. The reason his contract is up is because prior to last season the Raiders opted not to pick up the fifth year option in his rookie contract. Then Jacobs went out and had a career year, leading the league with 1653 yards rushing and over 2000 yards from scrimmage. The Raiders are left with three options: Let him leave, slap him with the franchise tag, or sign him long term.

McDaniels expects quarterback room to 'change dramatically' as team looks at free agency and draft
A notable portion of the Combine – and McDaniels' self-professed favorite part – is the prospect interviews. "We really get an opportunity to get a feel for the kid, hear from him," McDaniels added. "He'll get an opportunity to make an impression on us with his personality." Through the short interviews, McDaniels, Ziegler and their staff will be able to form an initial assessment and potentially create a clearer picture of their draft plan.

Las Vegas Raiders: Will Dylan Parham move to center in 2023?
The Las Vegas Raiders have big-time issues on both sides of the ball, and needing cap space to take care of that, they could move on from Andre James. When it comes to needs for the Las Vegas Raiders this offseason, you can look no further than the offensive line. The Silver and Black have had issues upfront for many years now, as it has been a revolving door of players, most of whom have not worked out in a positive way. A few years back, the team made the decision to move on from center Rodney Hudson, a player who was widely considered the best in the game at his position.

NFL Insider Hypothesizes How Josh McDaniels' Raiders Will Fill QB
The Las Vegas Raiders are one of the many NFL franchises that enter the offseason with more questions than answers as it relates to the quarterback position. Raiders general manager Dave Ziegler and head coach Josh McDaniels, both of whom went to Las Vegas last offseason after tenures with the New England Patriots, brought on that challenge given the benching and ultimate release of quarterback Derek Carr. Carr was released earlier this month before the deadline for his guaranteed money.

Raiders news: Was Vegas a 'lock to land Brady, franchise tag for JJ28? The Las Vegas Raiders are still looking for a franchise quarterback entering March, but could they have had Tom Brady back in 2020? When it comes to the 2023 offseason for the Las Vegas Raiders, much of the talk is going to circle around the quarterback position. For the first time since 2014, the Silver and Black have a gaping hole at the position and will look to either add a player in free agency or possibly even trade up for one in the 2023 NFL Draft.

NFL Free Agency: Best Landing Spot for Josh Jacobs
The Raiders running back led the league in rushing yards but will hit the open market when NFL free agency begins on March 15th. The running back position doesn't have a ton of fantasy superstars available on the free agent market, but there are a couple of players who could really hit it big. The best fantasy scenario is that Jacobs remains with the Raiders, whether it's via a new contract or on the franchise tag.

What condition the position is in: Assessing Raiders level of need at tackle ahead of free agency
We take a look at the offensive tackle position for the Raiders ahead of free agency to give it a condition of either Strong, Stable, Unstable, Serious, or Critical.
Returning starters: Kolton Miller
Depth: Thayer Munford, Jackson Barton, Sebastian Gutierrez
Free agents: Jermaine Eluemunor, Brandon Parker
Miller is one of the more solid left tackles in the NFL. He has missed three games in five NFL seasons and signed a long term extension last offseason to keep him in Silver & Black for the foreseeable future.
Eluemunor was not pegged as the starter in the offseason, but that’s where he ended up starting the season. After a rough start, he finished out the season with some passable play
Munford was the team’s pick in the seventh round of the 2022 draft. He was part of the competition in the offseason at right tackle, but ultimately played mostly as a tackle eligible in jumbo packages.
Condition: Unstable
The Raiders could go about trying to upgrade the right tackle spot. The previous regime swung and missed on Alex Leatherwood, leaving the new regime back in the position of trying to find a long term answer.
Eluemunor may have earned a shot to return, and compete at tackle or to move inside to guard. Or he may have just been a stopgap and move on in free agency.

Is Raiders RB Josh Jacobs the best running back scheduled to hit free agency?
One of the most loaded positions in free agency this year will be running back. Not only is the NFL’s leading rusher expect to hit the open market, but three other Pro Bowlers from the 2022 season (Saquon Barkley, Tony Pollard, and Miles Sanders) are all scheduled to become free agents.
But who is the best running back set to hit the open market? Is it Josh Jacobs or is it someone else?
In a recent article by Mike Clay of ESPN, he ranked all of the free-agent running backs going into the new league year. Jacobs ranked at No. 2, only behind Saquon Barkley. Here is what he had to say about the former first-round pick from Alabama:
“Jacobs picked a perfect time for a breakout season, turning offseason reports that he’d be demoted to a committee role into league-high showings in touches (393) and scrimmage yards (2,053).
The 2019 first-round pick was exceptional as a rusher (340 attempts, 1,653 yards and 12 touchdowns) and receiver (53 receptions and 400 yards). He has finished all four pro seasons no lower than 15th at running back in rushing yards and was top 15 in receiving yards in 2021 and 2022.”
Considering health and production, it’s hard to argue that there is a better free-agent running back than Jacobs. He is a true three-down back that can do everything at a high level.
While Barkley might have more “star” power, Jacobs is the best running back on the market. Look for him to get paid as such early next month.

No 'immediate answer' at QB for the Raiders in 2023?
Las Vegas Raiders running back Josh Jacobs really likes the idea of playing with quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers' future is a favorite subject of offseason NFL speculation, with the questions focused on if the four-time league MVP will continue playing, and if so, if that will be in a 19th season with the Green Bay Packers or after a trade to another team.

Raiders: QB1 in 2023 is still very much a question mark entering March
After moving on from Derek Carr this offseason, the Las Vegas Raiders still have a huge question mark in terms of their 2023 QB1. The Las Vegas Raiders have work to do in terms of their roster, but could a divisional rival provide help in an area of need this offseason? The 2023 offseason is a huge one for the Las Vegas Raiders, coming off a disappointing six-win season, and serious question marks on both sides of the ball. On both offense and defense, the Silver and Black need help in a big way, especially if they hope to keep pace with the rest of the division in 2023. Texas A&M RB Devon Achane could be potential replacement for Josh Jacobs
It appears that the Raiders will try to retain All-Pro running back Josh Jacobs this offseason. However, there is a very real chance that he leaves in free agency should he get a bigger offer.
If that’s the case, the Raiders will have to try to find a way to replace Jacobs through free agency and the draft. The expectation is that 2022 fourth-round pick Zamir White would see a bigger workload, but they would also need to add some more speed to the backfield.
One potential solution would be Texas A&M running back Devon Achane, who is expected to be picked on Day 2 of the NFL Draft. Achane is one of the fastest players in the draft with legit 4.30 speed. Here is what Bleacher Report had to say about the SEC running back prospect:
“The first-team All-SEC performer is a track athlete who also excels on the gridiron. Prior to last season, the dual-sport standout posted top-10 program performances in the indoor 60-meter dash (6.63 seconds), outdoor 200-meter dash (20.20) and outdoor 100-meter dash (10.14). He’s been named a first-team All-American in the 4×100-meter relay and second-team in 100-meter and 200-meter events.”
Achane is listed at only 185 pounds, so he is unlikely to fill the role of a full-time back. But he could be a dynamic runner and receiver and Josh McDaniels has plenty of experience using undersized backs.
If the Raiders do lose Jacobs in free agency, look for them to solve their running back issue through the draft with some more speed. Achane could be a fantastic pick anytime in the second or third round of the NFL Draft.

Raiders still more accomplished than Chiefs in NFL's Super Bowl era, but for how much longer?
Even after struggling for decades, the Raiders franchise is still one of the most accomplished teams in the NFL’s Super Bowl era, pacing the AFC West. But with the Chiefs approaching dynastic status, how much longer until Las Vegas is passed by its longtime rival?
If current trends continue, it won’t be long. But for now, the Raiders are the 6th-most accomplished team since the NFL-AFL merger. That’s according to a yearly ranking compiled by The Athletic’s Bob Sturm.
Sturm awards points for winning the Super Bowl, playing in the Super Bowl and losing, reaching the conference championship game, and making the playoffs. The Raiders have only scored two points on Sturm’s scale in the last decade but sit one spot above the Broncos and three spots above the Super Bowl champion Chiefs.
Here’s what Sturm said about the Raiders.
“The Raiders became a real power with wins in Super Bowls 11, 15 and 18. Since then, times have been significantly more difficult, most famously when all-powerful owner Al Davis lost the secret formula for winning. Despite an incredible drought since they last ranked as an NFL power, the Raiders remain just barely outside the top five.”
The Raiders are only three points behind the Packers for the No. 5 spot. But considering how poorly the franchise has performed in general and the slow start to the current regime, Las Vegas has to glance at its rearview mirror.
Kansas City would vault ahead of the Broncos and the Raiders with another Super Bowl win. The Chiefs, led by quarterback Patrick Mahomes, have been awarded 37 points by Sturm in the last decade and are No. 9 on this list.
As for the Broncos, they are just three points behind Las Vegas in this decades-long competition and currently sit at No. 7.
Frankly, it’s amazing the Raiders rank highly on this list after struggling so mightily for decades now. It’s a testament to the domination of the Raiders’ best teams in the ’60s, ’70s, and ’80s.
The Raiders’ current regime, led by coach Josh McDaniels, is tasked with turning the historic franchise around. A playoff appearance would help Las Vegas hold off the Broncos and Chiefs on Sturm’s list. It would also mark a turnaround for McDaniels after a very disappointing 2022 campaign.
Can McDaniels succeed where many have failed and make the Raiders consistently significant again, sustaining the Raiders’ prestige in the process? He and general manager Dave Ziegler have a lot of work to do to make that happen. They can look to the franchise’s past for inspiration — and to learn from abundant mistakes made by past regimes.
