Over the past several years, it’s been a running joke that the Las Vegas Raiders would lose even on the bye week. The team wasn’t very good and the season was essentially over by the time the week off came around, so the joke became an annual tradition year after year and honestly, was partially true. For a while, it felt like the Raiders would have some sort of bad luck during the bye, but that wasn’t the case this year.

The Denzel Perryman Dilemma

Due to Perryman's history with Gus Bradley (both spent several years in Los Angeles), the linebacker hit the ground running and instantly boosted the Raiders defense. Wearing the green dot and delivering big hits between the tackles helped this team create an identity on defense. Stopping the Run Perryman, in many ways, has been a revelation for this defense.

2021 Post-Week 8 NFL Power Rankings: Las Vegas Raiders enjoy the bye week

The Las Vegas Raiders did not play in Week 8, as they had their bye week, but ended up being helped out by some unexpected NFL teams in a big way. The Las Vegas Raiders did not play during the 2021 NFL Week 8 slate, but they certainly got some help, as some teams came out of nowhere to pull off some upsets. From the New York Jets beating the Cincinnati Bengals, to the New England Patriots going west and beating the Los Angeles Chargers, it was a successful week off for the Silver and Black.

Over the last couple of years, one of the preseason/training camp standouts for the Las Vegas Raiders was linebacker Javin White. In 2020, the coaching staff raved about how good White looked during camp and ended up putting him on the practice squad to start the season before calling him up to the active roster for a handful of games.

The rest of the AFC West was in action and not only did the Los Angeles Chargers lose, but the Cincinnati Bengals also suffered an upset. So, the Raiders are not only in sole possession of first place in their division, but they also stay in second place in the conference standings.
