Raiders trade massive haul to get No. 1 pick in recent Patriots mock draft

The Raiders will have to get a quarterback this offseason. The big question is how aggressive they’re going to be to get one.

I recently suggested the Raiders go after one of the Vikings quarterbacks in trade, sending their top pick and perhaps more to get one of them.

But our friends over at Patriots Wire think the Raiders will go after their QB in the draft and the haul they project the Raiders to give up in order to jump from pick eight to number one is easily the most aggressive I’ve seen.

New England trades: 2025 first-rounder (No. 1)

Las Vegas trades: 2025 first-rounder (No. 8), 2025 second-rounder (No. 39), 2026 first-rounder, 2026 third-rounder, 2027 first-rounder, 2027 third-rounder

That’s right, they see the Raiders giving up six picks including three first rounders (!) to jump up seven spots from eight to one.

The trade, as they see it, is so the Raiders can secure Colorado QB Shadeur Sanders. Though some mock drafts of late actually have Miami’s Cam Ward rated higher.

Regardless of which QB the Raiders would be after, in this imagined trade, the Patriots “stockpile premium assets for future drafts,”

Yeah, to say the least.

The Patriots are in the position where they won’t be looking at getting a quarterback and therefore holding onto the top pick doesn’t carry as much value as trading out of it. But THAT much value??

It remains to be seen if the Patriots will even have the top pick after the season is over. They are set to face the Bills who are expected to rest their starters, so it’s entirely possible the Patriots win and another team lands that top pick. Though the Raiders aren’t one of them. They can do no better than the third overall pick due to their record (4-12) and strength of schedule.

Raiders named possible landing spot for embattled $16 million 49ers starter

The Las Vegas Raiders will have a slew of free agents to make decisions on in the 2025 offseason, with two of them coming at the linebacker position in Robert Spillane and Divine Deablo. Deablo and Spillane are slated to be free agents in 2025, which means Las Vegas might have to replace two starters at the position if neither one is retained. If the Raiders do end up in the market for at least one starting linebacker this coming offseason, Jack Aaron of The Last Word on Sports believes Las Vegas could be a landing spot for San Francisco 49ers linebacker Dre Greenlaw.

2 Raiders make 2025 NFL Pro Bowl roster

The Pro Bowl rosters are out and the AFC team has a couple Raiders on it.

Here we go: The 2025 Pro Bowl Games Players, full rosters:

— Ian Rapoport (@rapsheet1.bsky.social) January 2, 2025 at 8:09 AM

Maxx Crosby makes the roster despite finishing seventh in Pro Bowl fan voting. Apparently the fact that he finished third in the NFL in tackles for loss despite missing four games already was enough for the other 2/3 of the decision-making process to override the fan opinion. Which, honestly, is the right way to do it.

Brock Bowers has also been named to the team at tight end. He currently leads all NFL tight ends in catches (108) and yards (1144) and has not only broken the rookie TE yards record, but the rookie receptions record and the Raiders franchise single-season receptions record.

Not making the initial team was Robert Spillane, who finished fifth in Pro Bowl fan voting. He will still have the chance to make the squad as an alternate.

Bowers has 108 receptions to top the mark set last season by Puka Nacua (105) of the Los Angeles Rams.

Raiders showing up late to New Orleans due to delayed flight

The Las Vegas Raiders had a flight delayed for several hours on Saturday, forcing them to head to New Orleans late for their meeting with the Saints on Sunday. Las Vegas was hoping to fly out in the morning, but a mechanical issue on its plane prevented it from doing so. Instead, the Raiders had to wait for a second plane, which didn't get out of town until about 10 p.m. ET. Kickoff for Las Vegas' matchup with New Orleans is at 1 p.m. ET.

Chargers, Jim Harbaugh mum on resting starters vs. Raiders in Week 18

Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh wants to win football games, which is certainly something to keep in mind going into the team's Week 18 matchup with the Las Vegas Raiders despite all the playoff happenings around the kickoff time . Speaking with reporters to start the Week 18 grind, Harbaugh said “the plan is to win” against the Raiders. As he pointed out, there is always a chance the Chargers could earn their way up to the fifth seed in the AFC playoffs. But there's a wrinkle to consider. If the Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Cincinnati Bengals on Saturday night in primetime, the Chargers would be locked into the No. 6 seed in the playoffs and unable to change things no matter what

Former Las Vegas Raiders draft bust resurfaces after signing with UFL team

The Las Vegas Raiders took a gamble on cornerback Damon Arnette with the No. 19 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, but just like a lot of picks during the second Jon Gruden era, he didn't pan out. The Raiders parted ways with Arnette after video surfaced online of the Ohio State product brandishing multiple firearms while making threats. "Very painful decision," now-former Raiders general manager Mike Mayock said at the time.

AFC Foe Could Target Steelers RB

Pittsburgh Steelers running back Jaylen Warren has kicked into gear as the playoffs draw closer, which could ascend his value ahead of his restricted free agency in the offseason. As laid out by Las Vegas Raiders on SI's Matthew Schmidt, the silver and black are a potential destination for Warren that's worth keeping an eye on. "Whether or not Warren can actually be a featured back is up for debate, but he did post 784 yards and four scores while logging 5.3 yards per attempt in 2023," Schmidt wrote. "Perhaps a [Sincere] McCormick-Warren tandem would be just what the doctor ordered for Las Vegas."

REPORT: 7-Round Raiders Mock Exhibits Complete Overhaul

The 2024 NFL Draft saw the Las Vegas Raiders land a generational talent in tight end Brock Bowers, who has dominated since Day 1 for the Silver and Black. Bowers was considered a can't-miss prospect by many, and the Raiders knew that it would be criminal to pass on that kind of potential. Bowers now owns the rookie tight end receiving yards record along with the rookie receptions record, with 1,144 yards on 108 receptions. The 2025 NFL Draft will likely see a vastly different outcome for the Silver and Black, but a similar approach -- they want to continue to be investors, not gamblers.
