Raiders HC Pete Carroll nabs his former Seahawks LB coach
There will be a new linebackers coach in Las Vegas. But he’s not new to Pete Carroll. John Glenn spent six seasons as the linebackers coach in Seattle under Carroll from 2018-23 and spent last season with the Washington Commanders as assistant special teams coach. Now he’s reuniting with Carroll in Las Vegas.
The #Raiders are hiring John Glenn as their linebackers coach, per source.
A reunion with Pete Carroll, who had Glenn as LBs coach for six seasons in Seattle. He was Washington’s assistant special teams coach last season.
— Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero) January 31, 2025
Make no mistake, Glenn’s time in Seattle were not the Legion of Boom years when the Seahawks had one of the league’s top defenses. Those years predated Glenn’s stint on the job.
The linebacker coach job in Las Vegas last season was held by Mike Caldwell who pulled double duty as Raiders running game coordinator and linebackers coach.
Patrick Graham is returning as the Raiders defensive coordinator and will now have a new member of his staff. It’s the first sign of the hands-on approach Carroll takes with the defense.
What remains to be seen is if Glenn will have the same linebackers to work with this season as were starting for the Raiders last season as both starting linebackers Robert Spillane and Divine Deablo will be free agents in March if not re-signed by the team.

Raiders lure in longtime Seahawks staffer with ties to Al Davis
The Raiders’ staff and front office continues to fill out. The latest is a familiar face for both Pete Carroll and the Raiders as Carroll has lured Matt Capurro from the Seahawks, who had worked with Carroll dating back to his USC days.
Seahawks VP of coaching operations Matt Capurro is leaving the team after 15 years to reunite with Pete Carroll and rejoin the Raiders. Was with Carroll at USC in 2009 and in Seattle from ’10-23, and worked for Al Davis in Oakland from ’04-08.
Valuable right-hand man to the HC.
— Albert Breer (@AlbertBreer) January 31, 2025
This is also a return to the Silver & Black for Capurro who worked with the Raiders under Al Davis from 2004-08,
Cappuro’s job in Seattle was to work directly with the head coach and is responsible for coordinating the team’s day-to-day operations, including overseeing player and staff communications and managing the year-round football schedule, which includes the offseason program, OTA days, mini-camps and training camp.

REPORT: Raiders Again Linked to Chargers Star Defender
The Las Vegas Raiders are definitely in need of some help in their secondary heading into the NFL offseason, but where will they find their answers? Well, the Raiders are slated to have expansive cap room, so there really is no reason why they wouldn't sign someone on the free-agent market. There will be a number of terrific cornerback available in March, and for the second time in recent weeks, Las Vegas has been linked to Los Angeles Chargers cornerback Asante Samuel Jr. Mason Cameron of Pro Football Focus has named the Raiders a top potential landing spot for Samuel, who is coming off of an injury-shortened 2024 campaign in which he played just four games.

The power of continuity: Patrick Graham can keep building
Las Vegas Raiders superstar Maxx Crosby has been justifiably frustrated with the organization's frequent turnover in recent years. The overnight news that defensive coordinator Patrick Graham is being retained by the new regime, allows Crosby to continue in the same defense, under the same defensive coordinator he's had for more than half of his career. Graham becomes the longest-tenured Raiders defensive coordinator since Rob Ryan's four-year stint 20 years ago.

Should The NFL Create Annual AFC-NFC Regional Rivalries?
In the current NFL, each team plays 17 games in an 18-week season. They play six divisional games, breeding natural rivalries while playing four games against a division in the opposing conference on a rotating cycle. In their seven remaining games, the teams play one opposing conference opponent and six opponents in the same conference. For example, in the 2024 season, the Rams played their three NFC West divisional rivals twice. They also played the AFC North, picking up wins against the Patriots, Jets, and Bills. On top of that, they played the Las Vegas Raiders as their addition AFC verses NFC game. While the Raiders represent a regional opponent, that isn't always the case in the NFL. The

REPORT: Raiders Deemed Top Landing Spot for Pro Bowl CB
The Las Vegas Raiders primarily need offensive pieces this offseason, but that does not mean their defense is exempt from adding help. The Raiders definitely need to bring in some reinforcements on the defensive side of the ball, particularly at cornerback. Nate Hobbs could depart Las Vegas via free agency, and even if the Raiders retain him, they could still stand to add another player at the position. Mason Cameron of Pro Football Focus expects Las Vegas to address the issue in the coming months and has tabbed the Raiders as one of the top landing spots for Minnesota Vikings star Byron Murphy.

Raiders predicted to add $112 million 10-time Pro Bowler as next quarterback
The Las Vegas Raiders are in a familiar spot in 2025, as the team doesn't have a sure answer at the quarterback position after yet another disappointing season. The signing of Gardner Minshew proved to be a failure and there's a chance he won't be with the team in 2025. Aidan O'Connell has proven serviceable but has hardly shown he's the long-term answer. The hope amongst Raiders fans is that the team will draft a franchise quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft, but Las Vegas could be out of the range of the top signal-callers with their first-round pick being in the No. 6 spot, which is behind three teams in desperate need of quarterback help.

2 best players Raiders must trade for in 2025 NFL offseason
The Raiders will enter Lambeau Field in April with the No. 6 overall pick. Las Vegas would love to take a quarterback, but both Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders are expected to be gone before its selection. The 2025 NFL Draft quarterback class is likely not deep enough to have three signal-callers taken in the top 10. Fan panic attack averted as John Spytek signs 5-year deal as Raiders new GM
There was some speculative panic in the Raider Nation Thursday night when the news came out that Liam Coen was waffling on returning as OC with the Buccaneers to take the head coach position with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Why would this cause a panic, you ask? Let’s explain.
You see, prior to Coen reversing course and heading to Jacksonville, the Jaguars fired GM Trent Baalke who they finally seemed to realize was scaring off potential head coach hires. And Coen was told he would have a say in who the new GM would be.
Spytek was the assistant GM in Tampa and is well-liked. The last reports out about him taking the job in Las Vegas were that he was finalizing a deal. Much like with Coen who had agreed to terms to return to the Bucs, but hadn’t officially signed his contract.
So, a lot of Raiders fans were freaking out a bit, wondering if Coen would reach out or had reached out to Spytek to come to be the GM in Jacksonville.
All caught up? Good.
That’s when ESPN’s Tom Pelissero put on his cape and saved the Raiders fans from themselves.

Pelissero reporting that “Spytek has now signed” his deal is interesting words because it kinda sounds like maybe this little bit of drama may have prompted them to get on the ball and get it signed to put a stop to it all.
Spytek is getting a five-year deal. Now we wait to see how long before the Raiders officially announce it and schedule the press conference.

REPORT: Where Did Raiders' RB Situation Rank in 2024?
The Las Vegas Raiders had an incredibly underwhelming rushing attack in 2024. The Raiders ranked last in the NFL in rushing yards per game with just 79.8. 4 head coach candidates for Raiders and 4 teams competing for them
We’re approaching the third week that the Raiders have been without a head coach. They have had several interviews, but as of now have yet to find their guy.
They’ve watched as three different coaches in whom they have expressed interest have taken head coach positions elsewhere. So, on down the list they go.
There are currently four teams still looking for a head coach — Raiders, New Orleans Saints, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Dallas Cowboys (though reports say they are leaning toward current OC Brian Schottenheimer to take the job).
These teams will be fighting over the top candidates this cycle.
Here are the top four the Raiders are looking at.
Former Seahawks HC Pete Carroll
The 73-year-old former longtime head coach is looking to get back to it. He had a successful 14-year run with the Seahawks that included a Super Bowl win and two NFC Championships. He also had head coaching stops with the Patriots, Jets, and USC Trojans. He had an interview with the Raiders last week.
Ravens OC Todd Monken
One of the most respected coordinators in the NFL. He has spent six years as an OC in the NFL, including three with the Buccaneers (2016-18) and the past two with the Ravens. In between, he was the OC at Georgia when they won two National Championships and where he coached Raiders tight end Brock Bowers. The Raiders have requested an interview with him, but none has yet been reported.
Chiefs DC Steve Spagnuolo
Spagnuolo was a head coach for three seasons with the Rams (2009-11). He went 10-38 in those seasons and hasn’t gotten a second shot since. But his six seasons as DC in KC has him once again being talked about as head coach material. The Raiders had a virtual interview with him and should they not jump the gun and hire a head coach before the Chiefs exit the playoffs, you’d figure an in-person interview with Spagnuolo would follow.
Former Jets HC Robert Saleh
Saleh went 20-36 over four seasons with the Jets and was fired five games into last season despite a decent 2-3 record. The fact that the previously highly respected DC is getting many interviews now is a testament to the respect he still has in league circles.
Other available candidates whose names who have frequently come up for head coaching jobs this cycle include: Bills OC Joe Brady, Eagles OC Kellen Moore, and Broncos DC Vance Joseph.

Jaguars holding 2nd head coach interview with Raiders DC
Several teams out there are still looking for a head coach. Among them are the Raiders and Jaguars. This week one of the Raiders assistants will head back to Jacksonville for a second interview for the Jaguars head coaching job.
Patrick Graham led a Raiders defense that came out swinging after the firing of Josh McDaniels in 2023 to finish as the best defense in the league over the latter half. And they continued to be one of the better defenses last season despite being hit with a rash of injuries.
Now the well-respected defensive coordinator is getting a look as a head coach as one of two current candidates this week getting a second interview.
The other is former Jets head coach Robert Saleh.
However, with the recent firing of GM Trent Baalke, the Jaguars are said to be waiting for a couple of other candidates from playoff teams to become available, including Joe Brady and Kellen Moore.
Worth noting: The Jaguars are not down to the two candidates who are in this week for in-person interviews (Robert Saleh and Patrick Graham). Their interview schedule is also expected to include, among others, coaches in the playoffs such as Joe Brady and Kellen Moore.

Brady is the OC for the Bills who face the Chiefs in the AFC Championship game on Sunday. Moore is is the OC for the Eagles who face the Commanders in the NFC Championship game.
It’s possible one or both of them could be available to interview by Monday.
Many have had Dallas as the destination for Moore as head coach, likely because he spent four seasons as OC there from 2019-22. But the Cowboys are said to be finalizing a deal to make Brian Schottenheimer their next head coach.
Look for the Cowboys to cross the finish line on hiring Brian Schottenheimer no later than Friday, possibly today

This is why they hold the interviews. You never know how things will play out.

Raiders predicted to hire 2-time NFL offensive coordinator as head coach
The Las Vegas Raiders' search for a head coach continues after the team struck out on its No. 1 target, former Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, who was hired by the Chicago Bears in a move that came sooner than expected. It was believed that Johnson would take in-person interviews before landing on his decision, but clearly he didn't need them. It was a tough blow for Raiders fans, who thought Johnson had a good chance to land in Las Vegas after reports suggested as much.

Star Raiders DC Patrick Graham Set For 2nd Jaguars Interview Today
The Jacksonville Jaguars are set to host their first candidate for a second person interview today, with the Jaguars set to conduct an in-person interview with Las Vegas Raiders defensive coordinator Patrick Graham. Graham has a long history of building successful defenses, and his work with the Raiders in 2024 showed that. Graham has the ability to develop young players on the defensive side of the ball and has brought the careers of several veterans -- such as K'Lavon Chaisson -- back to life. Graham has long been known as one of the best defensive coordinators in the league, and in 2024 he helped the Raiders punch way above their weight.
