New part-owner Tom Brady visits Raiders' facility

New Las Vegas Raiders owner Tom Brady was greeted by cheers when he arrived at the team's offices on Wednesday. One day after the other team owners approved Brady's bid to buy 10 percent of the Raiders, the former star quarterback arrived at the team's facility accompanied by controlling owner Mark Davis. In a video shared by the club on social media, team employees are seen surrounding the foyer, and they burst into applause as Brady walks in. Brady smiled broadly and applauded back.

Jets acquire star WR Davante Adams in trade with Raiders

Just a little more than a month after Davante Adams dismissed the notion he was dissatisfied with the Las Vegas Raiders, the three-time All-Pro wide receiver and his soon-to-be former team are splitting. The Raiders on Tuesday traded Adams to the New York Jets, ending the franchise's ill-fated run with its former marquee acquisition and setting the receiver up to team back up with quarterback Aaron Rodgers. The Jets are expected to send back a conditional third-round pick that could become a second-rounder if Adams is first- or second-team All-Pro selection or is on the team's active roster for an AFC championship game or Super Bowl appearance, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported.

Raiders PFF grades: 5 highest rated Week 6 vs. Steelers

The Raiders suffered yet another blowout defeat this week, this time at home against the Steelers. Handing quarterback Aidan O’Connell the keys to the offense didn’t help, and conservative play calling, turnovers, and penalties sealed Las Vegas’ fate.

But some players still had good days. Unsurprisingly, the two top-graded players by Pro Football Focus this week play on defense, led by linebacker Divine Deablo’s 88.6 score. Defensive end Maxx Crosby is No. 2 on the list at 84.5.

The highest-graded Raiders in Week 6 vs the Steelers:

Divine Deablo – 88.6
Maxx Crosby – 84.5
Brock Bowers – 80.6
Jordan Meredith – 79.5
Kolton Miller – 77.0

(min. 25 snaps) pic.twitter.com/nR6Eb2D6od

— PFF Las Vegas Raiders (@PFF_Raiders) October 14, 2024

The Raiders’ top performer on offense is also no surprise. Tight end Brock Bowers continues to impress with his supreme pass-catching and elite run-after-the-catch ability. Plus, he had some good moments blocking.

The Raiders had just 57 rushing yards and struggled on offense overall, but the offensive line held up fairly well after guard Dylan Parham left the game with an injury. Guard Jordan Meredith graded highly after replacing Parham and offensive tackle Kolton Miller landed in the top five for the second consecutive week.

The Steelers offense isn’t special, but the Raiders defense held up well after losing defensive tackle Christian Wilkins to injury. Deablo’s performance helped, and it was nice to see a top defender on the Raiders return with an injury rather than head to the injured reserve or be lost for the season.

It will take a lot more to salvage this Raiders season, however. Coach Antonio Pierce and his staff have injuries and a disgruntled star receiver to deal with, but there are no excuses. They’ll be in dire need of a win this Sunday against the Rams in Los Angeles.

Raiders, Steelers Week 6 recap, final score: Raiders unravel early, lose big again 32-13

Aidan O’Connell’s first start of the season would begin with some bad news — both the Raiders’ top receivers would not be playing.

With Davante Adams and Jakobi Meyers both missing with injuries, he set out to get the Raiders offense moving with the weapons he did have at his disposal.

That apparently meant a heavy dose of tight ends and running backs. And when I say “heavy dose,” I mean he used ONLY his tight ends and running backs.

Through five drives, no wide receiver had touched the ball.

It worked at first, with the Raiders driving for a touchdown on their opening drive with O’Connell going 4 for 4 for 45 yards. But it ultimately wasn’t sustainable.

First everything stalled, with consecutive three-and-outs. Then things began to unravel. Starting with rookie running back Dylan Laube fumbling the ball away on his first career carry.

The Steelers got the ball and for an instant it looked like the Raiders might take it right back. Divine Deablo intercepted it on a pass over the middle, but newly signed former practice squad defensive tackle Matthew Butler was flagged for roughing the passer, wiping it away. The Steelers kept the ball and scored the touchdown.

A failed two-point conversion would send the two teams into the locker room with a 12-7 Steelers lead.

The unraveling continued in the third quarter, when an AJ Cole punt was blocked, giving the Steelers the ball in first and goal at the nine. The Steelers added a field goal to go up 15-7.

Steelers offense got the ball back quickly due to the Raiders’ offensive ineptness and started driving again. A K’Lavon Chaisson sack set the Steelers back, but a Maxx Crosby roughing the passer penalty on the next play gave them the first down at the Vegas 41.

Two plays later, Najee Harris took the handoff, found the left edge and was gone 36 yards to paydirt. It put Harris over 100 yards on the day (102) with an average of 8.5 yards per carry. And it put the Steelers up 22-7 over the Raiders with over three minutes left in the third quarter.

A long drive at the end of the third quarter looked for a moment to end in a touchdown pass to Alexander Mattison, but Andre James was flagged for ineligible man downfield to wipe it away.

Next play, Ameer Abdullah broke a tackle and ran it to the one-yard-line. He was given the ball on the next play and had it punched out and the Steelers recovered. Brutal.

It wasn’t long before the proverbial nail in the coffin. Aidan O’Connell was throwing from his own end zone, dropped back and overthrew Brock Bowers. The pass was picked off by Donte Jackson and returned to the eight-yard line. Next play, Justin Fields runs a naked boot for a touchdown to give the Steelers a 29-7 lead with just over eight minutes left in the game.

The Raiders second touchdown was brought to you by garbage time with O’Connell finding Kristian Wilkerson for the touchdown and a failed two-point conversion. The final score of 32-13 came after the Steelers recovered an onsides kick and then drove inside the 20 to add a field goal.

Coming into the game, the Steelers were averaging just 3.7 yards per carry which was 29th in the league and Najee Harris averaging a paltry 3.3 yards per carry. In this game their running backs were averaged 5.9 yards per carry in this game with Harris more averaging 7.6 yards per carry.

O’Connell finished 27 of 40 for 227 yards, one TD and one INT.

Justin Fields finished with 206 total yards including 61 yards on nine carries with two touchdowns.

Brock Bowers led the way for the Raiders with nine catches for 71 yards.

Sources: Raiders could opt against Adams trade

In a fluid and unpredictable situation that seems to change weekly, Davante Adams could wind up staying with the Las Vegas Raiders rather than being traded, league sources told ESPN. Bill Belichick Revisits Reason Patriots Traded QB Jimmy Garoppolo

The Las Vegas Raiders find themselves in a (very) similar spot to the New England Patriots — six years ago — which former head coach and eight-time Super Bowl champion Bill Belichick explained from first-hand experience. Davante Adams, who hasn't made an appearance since Week 3, wants out of Las Vegas. The New York Jets and New Orleans Saints reportedly lead the forefront of trade rumors so far. When analyzing the situation from afar, Belichick drew a parallel to the 2018 season when New England parted ways with then-backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo — the Patriots traded Garoppolo to the San Francisco 49ers.

Some details about Michael Mayer's absence from Raiders revealed

The Las Vegas Raiders have not had tight end Michael Mayer in the lineup for a few weeks now, as the former second-round pick has been out due to a personal matter. While it wasn't clear exactly what kept Mayer out, we now have at least some details about what's behind his absence, and it has nothing to do with his role with the team, which some speculated might be the cause. According to Your Boy Q on the Locked On Raiders Podcast (at the 25-minute mark of the linked episode), the Raiders didn't know what was going on with Mayer before his family reached out to the team, informing Las Vegas that the tight end is indeed dealing with a personal matter and "a situation that has occurred in his life before."

Brock Bowers receives national accolade for standout showing in Week 5

The Las Vegas Raiders are off to an underwhelming start to the 2024 campaign, as the team has a record of 2-3 through five weeks and is dealing with a ton of negative off-the-field drama surrounding wide receiver Davante Adams' trade request. There haven't been many positives from the season for Las Vegas thus far, but one of the lone bright spots is rookie tight end Brock Bowers. The No. 13 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft has already established himself as one of the better tight ends in football, leading all players at his position in receiving yards (313) and receptions (28). Bowers put together another stellar afternoon on Sunday during the Raiders' Week 5 matchup versus the Denver Broncos and received some national attention from Pro Football Focus.
